Yatton District Car Club
Yatton Parish Council has worked in partnership with Dragonflyer Mobility Ltd, to provide its village car club which launched in Yatton on 13th September and in Claverham on 20th September.
Initial take up has been very positive and the car has already been booked and used for the first time and membership is into double figures.
The first two cars, both Citroen C1s, will be parked at Glebelands car park and at Claverham Village Hall.
Joining a car club instead of buying your own second or third car, reduces the number of cars parked around the area; reduces unnecessary journeys and associated emissions and eliminates the hassle of servicing, insurance and road tax. Members get to drive new, fuel efficient cars and save up to £1500 per year depending on how they use their vehicles (source: Carplus).
Karen Lee-Bapty, chairman of Yatton Parish Council taking delivery of the car on behalf of the village is keen to encourage as much participation in the scheme as possible. Leaflets describing the scheme and giving more details about how to get involved have been printed and are available at outlets around the Parish and from the Parish Office at Yatton Library.
Members of the club reserve a car in advance in multiples of one hour and pay for time booked. Charges start from a fantastic £3 per hour. See prices
Members book online in advance of when they need the car.
At the booked time, they pick up the key in return for their membership card and collect the car from its designated parking space.. Fill in the usage log before and after use and then return the car and key when you’re finished.
Charges for the month will be calculated by Dragonflyer using the electronic booking system and invoiced to you. You will therefore pay just one cheque per month to Dragonflyer Mobility however many times you’ve used the car.
To become a car club member, we will need:
1. To inspect (against insurance requirements) and take a copy of your driving license which will be held on file.
2. To know you have read a copy of the membership terms and conditions
3. To receive a signed driver declaration form
4. To receive a passport photo (digital or traditional)
5. To issue a photo ID car club membership card
6. To set you up on the internet car booking system (you will need a valid e-mail address)
Membership costs nothing and is best done at the earliest opportunity as processing takes about 5 days allowing for postal delays and inspection of the driving license.
To be eligible to join, members must have at least one year's driving experience; be aged between 21 and 75 and meet typical car insurance requirements.
If at any time there is a change to a member’s circumstances e.g. A new speed camera violation, it is the members responsibility to inform Dragonflyer Mobility immediately just as they would with a private insurance company. Failure to do so will invalidate the insurance at the members liability in the event of an accident or incident.
When the membership process is complete you can book and use the car any time you want.
